The Peace Corner 

The Peace Corner initiative was established in selected schools of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur to promote peace education and dialogue among students and the school community. The project created dedicated spaces within schools where students could share poems, stories, newsletters, and creative writings related to peace and conflict resolution.

The initiative began with a coordination meeting on 8 December 2011 involving school representatives, UNRCPD volunteers, DidiBahini representatives, Youth Forum members, and trainers. Between 20–27 December 2011, Peace Corners were physically established in schools, and School Peace Committees were oriented on their management and operation. From February 2012 onwards, Youth Volunteers, interns, and School Peace Committees regularly prepared and displayed quarterly newsletters focused on peace and conflict themes. In September 2012, DidiBahini Youth Forum members also conducted peace education training sessions for students and the wider school community.

Led by DidiBahini, youth volunteers, interns, and school peace committees, the initiative engaged more than 200 students through training, discussions, newsletters, and community interaction activities. Regular monitoring visits and annual peace education trainings strengthened students’ confidence, participation, and understanding of peacebuilding. The project successfully promoted youth leadership, student engagement, and wider community participation, highlighting the importance of continuing peace education initiatives in schools.
